I don't know how or why I ever discovered Wolfgang Tillmans, but I can say without a doubt that he is the reason I take pictures.
I think just by mere observation as an amateur photographer, I realized that both nothing and everything is sacred. His ability to elevate that which is most trivial to something that feels like art, gave me permission to attempt to do the same.
I still linger over his books. For me, that is the true test. Can I go back and still feel that same spark I felt the first time? Well, Mr Tillmans, the answer is yes. Yes, I can.
