On a Switch

Hey All,

I finally took the plunge and made the switch to Tumblr. Like many before me, I've realized that blogger is highly unwieldy, so it is time to make the switch. I think a lot of the way in which I blog lends itself better to Tumblr as well.

Now, Tumblr does make me a bit reluctant because I think sometimes micro blogging can be lazy blogging, but I promise to continue to supply substantive posts (assuming you think that is what I have been doing) despite my move. But, I believe there will be a lot more content incorporating things I find of interest rather just my specific posts. I also am trying to figure out how to integrate Twitter, but I'm not quite there yet. Maybe soon.

So, this is not goodbye but rather "check me out over here, instead!"

On Buds

Sorry to be obsessing about spring, but yesterday I walked out on my porch to discover that one of my plants/bushes was budding. This was exciting for a number of reasons, but most notably because I didn't know whether this guy would survive the winter or not... and lookie here!

This is particularly invigorating on a day like today as we here in Chicago are enduring the prospect of 30 degree temps and a bit more snow... or at least freezing rain. This is why March is such a deceptive month. You think you're getting there, but you're so not. But, maybe you are. Maybe unexpected buds on the bush remind you as much.

On Archives

I'm still sorting through the remnants of my crashed hard drive. Came across this picture and was reminded that it is an old favorite of mine.

On The First Bicycle Ride of Spring

This morning was my first time back on my bicycle in 2011. See, I'm not the "all through the winter" kind of cyclist, but rather a fair weather rider. This may make me a bit wimpier than I'd like, but I find solace in the fact that I walk a WHOLE lot during the winter, so all physical activity is not lost... just not in a two wheel format.

That being said, I've been feeling the need as the weather has perked up a little bit to get the 'ole bike out of the garage and take it for a spin. The delay was primarily due to the fact that I need to take my transit into the shop for a little tune up and the timing just hasn't been right. Today, I decided to give it a go and take the bugger in on my way to work. Lucky me, even after sitting for the winter my bicycle was still in fantastic shape, maybe not even necessitating and tune up and allowing me to just give the tires a boost and make my way directly to work this morning.

Ahhhhh! It felt so good! I always forget the feeling until I embark, but there is such great freedom on a bicycle. I'm a big fan of walking, and public transit, but a bicycle is ideal. I can go long distances and I am not bound by the slows of traffic. I also can move at a much faster speed than these two feet can carry me.

Anyway, it feels good to be back and makes me excited about Spring and all it has to offer.

I've been quiet on the blog lately because I have a lot of performing going on. It is concert season and if this weekend is any indication of the what the next month has in store, I will be quite tired by the end of it. He works hard for the money!

On Inspiration Friday

On Cocqui Cocqui - Valladolid

As you may remember, I inquired from you, my fellow blog friends about this place called Cocqui Cocqui. You of course came through and prompted a bit of research on my end. Turns out there is a Coccqui Cocqui in Tulum and Valladolid. We stopped into the one along the beach of Tulum and also to the one in Valladolid. For some reason, the one in the Valladolid seemed a bit less intimidating and prompted a bit more inquiry on our part. Actually the result was a couple of purchases. Cocqui Cocqui is a perfumeria, hotel and spa. Drawing from local ingredients, all the scents have a very natural smell and smells that seem hardy and earthy. The interior was gorgeous, particularly in Valladolid with a dark and historic feel, yet modern and inviting.

So, I picked up this terrific smelling candle. I'm not even that into smelly stuff, but I wanted to take this home with me. It smells like a local tree called Maderas. I have yet to burn it, but I look forward to.

On a Day Trip - Coba and Valladolid

Like I said, most of our days in Mexico were spent Ocean side, but one day, Thursday, we made our way out into the world to do a bit of sight seeing. These are two places I went my last time I was in the area, but I wanted to return as they were new to Scott and both very beautiful. Coba is a Mayan ruin with a temple that tourists are still allowed to climb. For the reason, it makes it a must see ruin, because most are very controlled and only able to be viewed from afar. We of course made our way directly to the top to check out the incredible view. The way down is in someways much scarier than the way up.

After we walked through the woods of Coba, we got back in the car and made our way to the Spanish Colonial town of Valladolid. A colorful and vibrant city with many aspects preserved, Valladolid is a real treat to walk around. When we weren't eating (see previous post) we were walking around and observing. You really get the sense that these walls have stories to tell.
